TENS:

  • Transcutaneous electric nerve stimulation is a non-invasive and non-drugs method of pain control.
  • TENS uses small electric impulses sent through the skin to modify pain perception.

  • TENS helps control pain. It is effective with most patients to relief or eliminate pain.

Operation:

  • Designed as a method of pain relief, electrostimulation sends smooth impulses through the skin that stimulate the nerve (or the nerves) in the treatment area.
  • In many cases, this stimulation reduces and even eliminates the pain sensation.

  • The pain relief varies depending on the patient, the selected mode and the kind of pain.

Scope of application:

For symptomatic relief and chronic pain treatment or as adjunctive therapy in the treatment of postoperative and post-traumatic pain.

EMS:

  • Electric muscle stimulation is a tested and internationally accepted method for muscular lesions treatment.
  • It works by sending electric impulses to the muscles that need to be treated: this makes that the muscle performs a passive exercise.

  • It is a by-product of the square waveform. It was discovered by John Faraday in 1831. The square wave pattern is able to work directly on the motor neurons of the muscle.

  • EMS features low frequency and this combined with the square wave pattern permits to work directly the muscle groups.

  • Currently, this method is used in hospitals and sport clinics for the treatment of muscle lesions and reeducation of paralysed muscles, what is useful to prevent the atrophy of the affected muscles, as well as to improve the blood circulation and the muscular tone.

Operation:

  • EMS devices send smooth impulses through the skin to stimulate the nerves in the treatment area.
  • Then, the muscle receives the signal and contracts as if the brain had sent the signal.

  • As the intensity of the signal increases, the muscle flexes as when you do exercise.

  • When the impulses stop, the muscle relaxes and the cycle starts again (stimulation, contraction and relaxation).

    • Pulse width changed automatically in a cyclic pattern of 10 seconds. (in max 300μS ) the pulse width dicreases lineally in a period of 4 seconds from the selected value to a value a 60% lower. The lowest pulse width will continue for a second. Then it will increase lineally in a period of 4 seconds to its original value. The initial pulse width will continue for a second. Then the cycle is repeated.

  • Mode P4 (frequency modulation)

    • Pulse frequency changes automatically in a cyclic pattern of 10 seconds. (in max. 150Hz) The pulse frequency dicreases lineally in a period of 4 seconds from the selected value that is lower than 40%.

    • The lowest pulse frequency will continue for a second. Then it will increase lineally in a period of 4 seconds to its original value. The original pulse frequency will continue for a second. Then the cycle is repeated.
